RCIA / Becoming Catholic

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The Catholic Church always welcomes new members into its community. The RCIA is the present-day process by which unbaptized adults and those baptized in another Christian tradition are welcomed into the Catholic Church. The process consists of various stages of experience and ritual celebrations. As an individual progresses in faith toward full initiation through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, he or she is supported by a sponsor, guided by catechists (both lay and ordained), and embraced by our community of believers. When beginning this process the Inquirers are just this – people inquiring and learning about the Catholic Church. As the process progresses, they then decide if this is the place that they are being led to by God.
